ABOUT ME

Clinical Psychologist, Psychotherapist with  Transpersonal Humanist training, Master in Contemplative Psychotherapy, Mindfulness and Psychotherapy.

My name is Benjamín Zegers, I am a professional Clinical Psychologist graduated from the Diego Portales University. There I studied Humanistic and Transpersonal psychology, a psychotherapy paradigm with a positive vision of the human being: given the right conditions, all human beings can grow, heal, and develop. As a psychotherapist, part of my job is to create those conditions.
As a clinical psychologist Humanist, I am interested in knowing each human as someone unique with needs and desires to satisfy, and with pain intimate to express and welcome._cc781905-5cde-319 4- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_
A central part of my life has been the practice of meditation. Thanks to her I have discovered the immense value of being present, that our emotions and experiences reside in the body, and that compassion and kindness are engines of healing and change.
Inspired by this, I studied at the Mindfulness Institute where I was able to learn more about the practice of meditation and its relevance to psychotherapy. I am currently a teacher at this institution. There we offer meditation courses to cultivate our natural ability to be present. Some courses we teach are: Introduction to Mindfulness, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and Buddhist Psychology.
After several years as a psychotherapist and teacher in Chile, I decided to travel to Colorado USA to study the Master of Contemplative Psychotherapy at the University of Naropa.
Contemplative Psychotherapy condenses my vision of psychotherapy. In my understanding, it is the union of two rivers: On the one hand, the contemplative traditions with their emphasis on meditation, the cultivation of presence, the exploration of the mind and trust in the good nature of all beings -particularly the Buddhist tradition with more than 2,500 years of research into human suffering; And on the other, the contributions of contemporary psychology with a deep understanding of attachment theory, trauma theory, and how we respond to our contexts and histories; added to the value of human relations and the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle for healing.
In my therapeutic practice I try to maintain a balance between exploring the causes of a person's suffering (history, trauma, attachment style), current lifestyle (sleep, diet, activity level, work) and present experience. I attach great importance to working with the body in the present moment. My biggest influences are:
The contribution of Mindfulness, meditation and compassion in psychotherapy.
The Focusing technique, and the relevance of the Body.
Trauma theory and how traumatic experiences get trapped in the body (the nervous system).
Attachment theory and the value of relationships.
The legacy of Carl Rogers and trust in the human being.
